ROOKS County is in the second tier of the northwestern counties of Kansas, and fifth
from the western boundary of the State. It contains 576,000 acres of land and is
divided into twenty-one townships.
Organized in 1872. Stockton. In memory of John C. Rooks, private of Company
I, Eleventh Kansas Infantry, who died December 11, 1862, at Fayetteville, Ark.,
of wounds received in the battle of Prairie Grove, December 7, 1862.
