Richard F. Hamilton enlisted for duty in Civil War 08 Aug 1862, Union, KY. Unit #'s 789-756 as a private; enlisted in Co. G, 34th Inf Regt on 07 Feb 1864, transferred to Co. L, 5th Cav Regt on 07 Feb. 1864.  

Richard and Mary were listed in the 1840 Jeffferson Co. KY, census with their parents. In the 1850 Bullitt Co., KY census, they were with grandparents, Richard Ferguson, age 77, and his wife, Polly, age 60. In the 1860 Bullitt Co., KY they were living with B. B. Furguson, age 32, and Pauline, age 37.census According to family tales, Richard F. and Mary Ann were young when parents, Reuben and Sarah died.  They went to live with Ferguson relatives in Bullitt Co.
