Abraham Beauregard Copal (Koppal) was born near Hamburg, Germany on Feb. 22, 1822. He served with the VA 44th Infantry - Co I, during the Civil War. Abraham's first wife, Prudence Elizabeth Newcomb Copal was from Charlotte Co., VA. They married on Oct. 30, 1844. Abraham and Prudence had four daughters and one son.

Their daughters and spouses were : (1) Sarah Ann Clementine Copal - Lindsey and Joseph Samuel Lindsey of Charlotte Co., VA. (2) Margaret Copal - Wilkerson and Thomas C. Wilkerson, last known in 1880 Union Co., KY. (3) Fannie Prudence Copal - Thomas and Charles E. Thomas of Dunkin Co., MO. (4) Kate Copal - Newcomb and Charles Newcomb of Charlotte Co., VA. Their son - David Flournoy Copal and his wife Susan Anna Chisum Copal of Charlotte Co., VA

Abraham's wife, Prudence, died in Charlotte Co., VA on Mar. 2, 1884. Abraham remarried Mary E. Aronburgh on Jan. 20, 1889 in Union Co., Ky. Abraham and Mary had two daughters, Polly and Nannie Copal. Nannie was married to Lloyd Lee Poulter on Jan. 27, 1913.

Abraham was accepted in the KY Veteran Home in Pewee Valley on Mar. 5, 1904. According to the hospital register at the Veteran home, Abraham was laster listed as a widower in 1904.

Abraham lived at the Ky Veteran Home until his suicide on Apr. 9, 1914. The records show he had cut his throat with the same pocket knife he had carried since the Civil War. His grave is in the Pewee Valley Cemetery, in Oldham Co., Ky. His grave is on Row #1, Space#12, at the front of the cemetery, near the entrance.
