"The Phillip Pennington Bible was passed on to me  in  1985,  and I 
found the following obituary  between  the pages.  It is from a newspaper,
but I don't know which one . She lived in Clark County, so I can only 
guess that it was in a Clark County newspaper."   


				PENNINGTON

Sister Lizzie Pennington, wife of Sanford Pennington, was born February 
14, 1853, and died in Clark County, Arkansas, at her home, Sept. 12, 1889.
She professed religion in early life and joined the M.E. Church South, in
which she lived a consistent member until the day of her death. I was her
pastor at one time for four years in succession, and also this year (at 
the time of her death) and I think I can truthfully say a good woman is 
gone to rest. She was a quiet, meek and unassuming lady, but always true
to her Church and the cause of the Master. This summer before her 
affliction came on she took upon herself the duty of soliciting 
subscriptions to have the Church House where she was a member, ceiled.  In
this she was successful. She was very much enthused on the subject of 
missions and wanted to do all she could in that direction to help push on
the glorious work of saving souls. Her affliction she bore patiently, 
perfectly submissive to the will of the Lord, and died in peace.  O how much
she will be missed by husband, children and an aged Father, brothers and 
sisters!  But she has gone to the home of the good; for death found her 
house in order and our loss is her eternal gain.
