	EUGENE WESLEY ROWE, LEADING METHODIST LAYMAN DIES AT 82

Eugene Wesley Rowe, aged 82, prominent retired farmer, died at the home
of his daughter, Mrs. Roy Houston, in this city, at 6:15 a.m. Sunday.
He was born at Morris, Alabama, December 22, 1870, and came to Clark 
County, near Arkadelphia, with his parents when he was very young.   He
married Miss Emma Pennington of the county, April 19, 1896.  She died in
1940. He was a Steward and long time member of the Methodist Church at 
Trinity community in which he lived most of his life.   Mr. Rowe was a 
leading citizen in his community.  A life-long  Methodist, Mr. Rowe was 
one of the pillars of the Davidson Camp Meeting, along with the late Bee
Murry.  Friends said he never missed but two camp meetings there in his
life.

He is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Marvin Sloan of Route 3, 
Okolona, Mrs. William Ehlert of Selma Alabama and Miss Emma Faye Rowe of
Selma Alabama, two sons, H.A. Rowe of Arkadelphia, and W.L. Rowe of 
Tahoka Texas; also by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral was held at Murray's Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, by 
Rev. T.M. Armstrong of Nashville, assisted by Rev. E.T. McAfee of Okolona.
Burial was at Mt. Zion cemetery, 10 miles west of Arkadelphia.

The pallbearers were Clarence Malcom, Dick Batson, Paul Turner, Hobart 
Lowther, Howard Arnold, Carter Thompson, Donald Patterson, and D.N. Kelley.
