William Stanley Answers the Final Summons
The death of W. Stanley, which occurred at his home six miles southwest
of this city Tuesday morning, Jan. 31, at 6 o’clock, will be regretted
by a large circle of friends throughout the county.
Mr. Stanley had been in declining health for several years, hence his
death, due to a general collapse of his physical condition rather than
to any particular disease, was the occasion of no surprise. His interment
followed at Ouachita cemetery Friday.
Mr. Stanley was the most extensive planter in this county, owning and
cultivating 2,000 acres or more of Ouachita bottom land. He was 68 years
of age, and aside from four years of service in the Confederate army, had
spent his entire life in this county. Mr. Stanley was thoroughly honest
man and accommodating to an extreme degree; indeed, the latter quality of
his character was developed to that extent that his estate will lose hundreds,
if not thousands of dollars as the result of his kindly nature.
He carried insurance on his life to the amount of $22,000, as follows:
Metropolitan, $15,000; Union Central, $5,000; A. O. U. W., $2,000.
He is survived by a widow and several children, some of the latter being grown.
