Newman, 96, of Star City, died Thursday morning in the Pine Bluff Nursing Home. He was a farmer. A son of the late Charles and Malissia Reynolds Newman, he was born in Star City and attended Lincoln County Schools. He was a Baptist. Surviving are two sons, Corbett O. Newman of Lanagan, Missouri and Charlie S. Newman of Star City; two daughters, Mrs. Oma Bridges of Bellflower, California and Mrs. Zola Hankins of Pine Bluff; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The body will be transferred to the home of his son in Star City until Saturday morning when it will be moved to Lone Grove Baptist Church where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. by Rev. Frank Glover. Burial will be in the Newman Cemetery by South Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Leon Newman, Wade Blasengame, Dennis Scifres, Jake Mullikin, B.C. (Buck) Mullikin, G. P. Harris, Bob Hawkins and Arlee Horn. [Note: First wife was Frances Louisa Blasengame, and second wife was Alice Blasengame.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Published in Pine Bluff Commercial, June 25, 1995 ZOLA HANKINS Zola Newman Hankins, 79, of Lakewood Plaza Nursing Home at North Little Rock, died June 24, 1995, at North Little Rock. Born May 21, 1916, at Star City, she was a daughter of the late George A. and Alice Blasengame Newman. She was reared and educated in Lincoln County. She was a resident of Pine Bluff from the 1940's to 1992, when she moved to North Little Rock. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. Survivors include a son, Kenny Hankins of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Pat Massey and Brenda Gimdt, both of Little Rock; a sister, Oma Bridges of Bellflower, California; and five grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Ralph Robinson & Son Mortuary. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery near Star City. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the mortuary. Newman, 74, of Star City, died Tuesday in Jefferson Hospital. He was a son of the late George A. and Frances L. Blasengame Newman. He was a farmer and timberman. He was a member of the Lone Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Star City. He was the Democratic central committeeman of the Spring Township of Lincoln County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace Mullikin Newman; and two sisters, Mrs. Oma Bridges of Bellflower, California, and Mrs. Zola Hankins of Pine Bluff. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Lone Grove Missionary Baptist Church by Reverend Frank Glover and Reverend Hershel Lee. Burial will be in the Newman Cemetery in Lincoln County, by Hale-South Funeral Home. The body will be at his home until service time Thursday. [Note: Charlie born 7-25-1905 and died 12-25-1979. Married September 23, 1933. No Children to this union.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Published in Pine Bluff Commercial, March 26, 1999 GRACE NEWMAN Grace Mullikin Newman, 86, of Star City, died March 25, 1999, at Gardner Nursing Home at Star City. She was born August 30, 1912, in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late R. Kendrick Mullikin and Belle Monk Mullikin. She was a homemaker and chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee of Lincoln County. She was a member of the Lone Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Star City. She was the widow of Charlie S. Newman, who died December 24, 1979. She was preceded in death by five brothers; R. K. Mullikin, Jr., Frank Mullikin, Arthur Mullikin, Dee Mullikin and Guss Mullikin; and two sisters, Chester Mullikin Wynn and Esther O. Mullikin Riley. Survivors include two brothers, Buck C. Mullikin and Jake Mullikin, both of Star City; and two sisters, Margaret Scifres of White Hall, and Gladys Hall of Star City. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Griffin Funeral Home at Star City with the Rev. Don Breshears officiating. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery at Star City.
