George Washington Childress Obituary:
Thursday, 4 Feb 1999, Benton Courier
George Washington Childress of Benton died Wednesday Feb. 3, 1999. He
was 79.
Childress was born March 16, 1919 in Bauxite.
He was a former Reynolds Metals Co. employee and an Army veteran of
World War II.
He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Wayne.
Survivors include his wife, Christine McGhee Childress; two sons Lanny
R. Childress of Lake Worth, Texas, and Robert Childress of Gainsville,
Fordyce and Dwayne Gambill of California; four stepdaughters, Alice Martin
of Sherwood, Pattie Richardson of Mt. Ida, Peggy Fay Brooks of Alexander
and Karron Wilkerson of the Sardis community; two sons, Ralph Childress of
Ohio and John Henry Childress of Cabot; and a sister, Nellie Blythe of
Kansas.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at New Rosemont
Cemetery in Benton. The Rev. L.D. Campbell will officiate.
