OUR DEAD
   In the work of county Historian, I have some very interesting facts whice (sic) with your permission, Mr. Editor, I will give to the general public. I have all or nearly all those of our boys who lost their lives from disease or fell in battle (WWI). If any of the readers of the Citizen-Times know of others they will confer a great favor by giving the names to me and tell me the cause of death and where they died.
 
My list is as follows:
John Blankenship, killed in action;
James T. Cooksey, died at Ft. Ben. Harrison, Ind
James D. Davidson, died of disease at Nashville;
Fred Gibson, died of disease at Hoboken, N.J.
Ezra Harrison, died of disease at Camp Taylor
Galen C. Jackson, died of disease, overseas
Freely V. Moody, died of disease, oversease (sic)
Henry Oliver, died of disease, at Hoboken, N.J.
Bill Bransford Piper, was reported killed in action, but now reported as wounded Dec. 26
Learner Tiffany, died overseas
Kiah Williams, died at Camp McClellan, Ala
Thomas Woodcock, died overseas
Willis Thomas, died at Camp McClellan, Ala
Colman Butler, died at Camp Taylor, Ky
Mitchel Boucher, Camp Taylor

James Durbin; Lonnie Durbin
Lonnie Durbin and James Durbin were brothers.  They were both killed in action in France, during 1918.
 
Pvt. Lonnie Durbin.  Born July 19,1893  Died Aug 28, 1918 while serving in Co. K, 126th Infantry with The American Expeditionary Forces.

Mackey A. Gladstone; Hiram C. Riddle; James L. Riddle
 The following info is from the book "A Military History of Clinton County, Kentucky"  1775 - 2000 which was assembled by the Clinton County Historical Society.
Both young men were buried at Arlington and were sons of George Taylor Riddle and Ida Nora Riddle.
Pvt. Riddle, Hiram C., 
Hiram died 16 Oct 1918 he was killed in action in Europe.  Rank is listed as Sergeant.
Cpl. Riddle, James L.,
James was killed in action on the 16 Aug 1918.  He served with Co. B 26th Infantry.  His rank is listed as Corporal.
 
Gladstone A. Mackey died 2 Mar 1918 during WWI from disease.  Gladstone was from Highway, Clinton County, Kentucky.  His parents were George Alfred Caldwell Mackey and Mariba Ewing Mackey.  He is listed in the military history book I mentioned above.  Gladstone was my great uncle.  
His body was shipped home and a headstone was sent by the military to his family so I know there have to be records somewhere.

Buster McGee; Henry McGee
Buster McGee was born Feb. 11, 1892, he died Oct. 3, 1918 in the Battle of Blanemont Ridge, France.
 
His brother Henry McGee was born Sept. 2, 1894, he died Oct. 9, 1918 in the US General Hosp. in PA.
 
They died 6 days apart. They both were in WW I, and they were from Columbus, Ky. in Hickman Co. Their names are on the same tombstone.

Leslie Herndon Arthur
My great uncle, Leslie Herndon Arthur, was the first soldier from Mason County, Kentucky, who died in WWI.  I have much information, including his letters to his family, letters of condolence, and other articles which you may find interesting.  I would like his name to be added to your list, since here in Mason Co., he is long remembered for his heroics.  He died April 15, 1918, and is buried here in the Mays Lick, Ky. cemetery.

my Great Uncle was born in KY but the family lived most of his life up on Sugar Creek.  His father was Oliver "Stant" Moss. I know that he was in WWI but I don't know any of the details about who he served with or where he was.  After the war he moved to Akron, OH where he lived for the rest of his life.  He passed in 1972.  Several of his children, who are now getting old themselves still live here in Akron.

My name is Tim Bain Grandson of James Bain killed in the mine explosion at Fourmile, Kentucky in 1945. My grandmother was Martha Patterson Bain and she had two brothers. Chester Patterson was killed while serving in WWI and Champ Patterson was killed in the Fourmile, Ky explosion in 1945. Chester enlisted at Knox County. I have sent the service card and picture. I don't know where the place of death was and I was hoping for information regarding this. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
